Sun Belt Conference Tournament Prediction and Pick
BetSided’s Iain MacMillan picked South Alabama in our Bets Bets Roundtable on Tuesday, and I can’t say I blame him.
The Jaguars are the full package, ranking No. 1 in the conference in effective field goal percentage and No. 2 in opponent effective field goal percentage this season. They’ll have a tougher road as the No. 5 seed, but Charles Manning is one of the best players in the Sun Belt and could lead this team to a conference title.
The biggest concern with South Alabama is it’s rebounding, as it ranks dead last in opponent offensive rebound percentage, but I think the Jaguars may be able to shoot themselves into the title.
Lean: South Alabama +500
Sun Belt Conference Tournament Dark Horse
The Sun Belt is really wide open, which makes it a little easier to choose a dark horse considering there really isn’t a clear favorite.
One team that interests me is Coastal Carolina at +800 odds, as the team ranks second in 3-point percentage, fourth in defensive efficiency and No. 1 in opponent effective field goal percentage.
The Chanticleers are a well-rounded team, but being the No. 7 seed has certainly knocked them down the odds list. They have the numbers to be a dangerous out, but they’ll need to avoid turning the ball over (21.4 percent turnover percentage) to truly make a run at the Sun Belt title.
