Syracuse vs. Pitt Prediction, Odds, Spread and Over/Under for College Football Week 10
By Josh Yourish
The No. 20 Syracuse Orange got off to a great start this year, but a trip to Clemson and a visit from Notre Dame leaves Dino Babers and his team reeling at 6-2.
Things aren't much better for the Pitt Panthers and Pat Narduzzi. They are also losers of two straight, but to lesser opponents than Syracuse has had to deal with. Louisville and North Carolina have both downed Pitt on their ACC road trip. At 4-4, this is not the encore season that anyone in Pittsburgh was hoping for after Kenny Pickett carried this team to the ACC title a year ago.
The Orange still managed to be ranked in the first edition of the College Football Playoff Committee’s Top 25 but are an underdog on the road this week, so let’s take a look at the odds.

Syracuse vs. Pitt Prediction and Pick
Pitt's defense got lit up by UNC a week ago, but Drake Maye has been doing that to everyone.
The problem with this Panthers team is their offense is nowhere near the unit they were a season ago, and Kedon Slovis has not lived up to the talent he showed in his freshman year at USC. Pitt was third in the nation in scoring offense last season and seventh in total offense. They scored over 40 points per game.
Additionally, the defense has dropped off from the 42nd scoring defense in the country to 80th this year. However, in terms of total yards allowed per game, they were 38th last year, but are 39th in 2022. That is likely the effect of their offensive struggles leaving opponents with short fields where they capitalize quickly and don’t need to move the ball much.
Syracuse is 16th in total defense this season. That side of the ball has carried them, but they could have a particular weakness that could allow Pitt to get going. Last week Pitt only scored 24 on UNC because the Tar Heels have a weak secondary and Slovis has not been able to take advantage of teams through the air. However, Syracuse is excellent against the pass, but 62nd in the country against the run. Last week, Notre Dame ran the ball for 246 yards and were able to score 41 points while only completing nine passes.
Israel Abanikanda is third in the country averaging 183 rush yards per game and leads college football with 16 touchdowns on the ground. He is likely the favorite for the Doak Walker award and will run all over Syracuse this week. I got burned taking Pitt as an underdog last week, but this time I like them as a favorite over the No. 20 ranked Orange.
Pick: Pitt -3.5 (-110)
