Syracuse vs. Virginia Tech Prediction, Odds, Spread and Over/Under for College Football Week 8
By Matt De Saro
Syracuse is desperately seeking its first conference win of the season on the road against Virginia Tech. The Orange are on a three-game losing streak, but they were all losses of exactly three points. Those losses came to Florida State, Wake Forest, and Clemson. The Orange did manage to cover those three games and are on a six-game winning streak ATS heading into Lane Stadium.
Things haven’t been that much better for the Hokies heading into Week 7 after dropping back-to-back games to Notre Dame and Pittsburgh. Unlike the Orange, Virginia Tech failed to cover either game and is now on a 0-4 ATS run. They are 1-1 in conference play.

Syracuse vs. Virginia Tech Prediction and Pick
Syracuse is a hard team to make a prediction on. While they have lost three games in a row, the difference in each game was a field goal and each game was a cover for the Orange. It feels weird to say of a team that has lost three in a row, but they actually have looked better each week. The defense has looked solid and ranks in the top-30 in opponent yards per game. They held Clemson to 314 yards and 17 points and missed a late FG that could have given them the win.
I am not in love with the offense, even with Sean Tucker averaging 6.1 yards per carry and nine touchdowns this season. This is important because their sophomore QB Garrett Shrader is completing less than 55% of his passes.
I do think that the Hokies offense is just that much worse, however. They looked to be in good shape after a Week 1 win over UNC as 5.5 point underdogs but were not able to capitalize on that performance. The Hokies rank outside of the top-100 in yards per game and red-zone scoring and have scored 10-points or less in three of their six games this season.
I expect a low-scoring affair and do like the under in this game. But, there is too much value to pass up with the Orange coming into Virgina and upsetting the Hokies.
Prediction: Syracuse +145
