There's no golf tournament in the world the attracts the amount of people than The Masters does. Whether it's the hardcore sports fan who has a several bets placed along with a number of Masters pools, or if it's the non-golf fan who tosses $10 into an office pool once a year, this is certainly the Augusta National offers something for everyone.

I've been writing about the Masters almost non-stop since Sunday afternoon, giving out picks and attacking every possible angle that exists that might give us an edge. One of my favorite angles, is the one that targets left-handed golfers.

As a lefty myself, this one that I love.

Why You Should Bet on Lefties at the 2022 Masters

When trying to predict the winner of a golfer tournament, the best thing to do is to get familiar with the course. Augusta National is arguably the most famous golf course in the world, and one of its prominent features, is the amount of holes that move from right to left. Commonly known as "dog-legs," these holes require golfers to aim left off the tee more often then not.

Without getting too technical, there are two main types of shots a golfer can hit with their driver. A fade or a draw. A fade is when the spin on the ball causes it to move away from the golfer (or fade) after its hit, where as a draw causes the golf ball to turn towards the golfer in mid-flight. The key thing to remember, is that fades are much easier to hit than draws.

With the amount of holes being left-to-right, left-handed golfers are able to hit fades to best set them up for a second shot, whereas right-handed golfers are forced to try to hit draws. That one simple difference can mean a lot across four rounds, and the proof is in the pudding when you look at previous Masters winners.

Dating back to 2003, six winners of the tournament were lefties. That's unheard compared to any other golf course on Tour. Phil Mickelson won it three times, Bubba Watson won it twice, and Mike Weir, the only Canadian to ever win a Major, won it back in 2003 as a lefty.

Lefties Competing at the 2022 Masters

Here is a list of lefties competing at this year's edition of the event, along with their odds to win courtesy of WynnBET:

  • Bubba Watson +10000
  • Brian Harman +20000
  • Robert McIntyre +25000
  • Garrick Higgo +50000
  • Mike Weir +450000

None of the five lefties competing have shorter than 100/1 odds to win, so you may want to stay away from betting on them to win outright, but there could be some sneaky Top 20 or Top 10 bets you could place.

For example, both Brian Harman and Robert MacIntyre finished tied for 12th the the Masters last year. You can bet on Harman to finish top 20 again at +275 and you can get MacIntyre at +325. Pretty good value, all things considered.
