There is a new regime in Fort Worth, and TCU football is going from a defensive minded head coach to an offensive savant.

Sonny Dykes was hired as the new head coach at TCU after building a high power offense at nearby SMU, filling in for long time head coach Gary Patterson. Dykes has one of highest returning productions in the country to go with a loaded roster that features two capable quarterbacks in Max Duggan and Oklahoma transfer Chandler Morris and game breaking receiver Quentin Johnson.

Will this lead to instant success for the Horned Frogs? We'll see as they head to Boulder to face Colorado, who is seen as one of the worst in the PAC-12 in 2022 with a win total of three.

Let's check out the odds and find the best bet on one of the biggest movers of the summer:

TCU vs. Colorado Odds, Spread and Total

TCU vs. Colorado Betting Trends

  • Colorado is 2-2 against the spread (ATS) since Karl Dorrell took over
  • Colorado 27-30 straight up (SU) since 2012 at home
  • TCU is 30-23 straight up on the road since 2012
  • TCU is 16-15-3 ATS since 2012

TCU vs. Colorado Prediction and Pick

This number opened with TCU favored by 7.5 points in the spring, but has since moved to -13.5 as the Horned Frogs have picked up a lot of momentum heading into the season. This is a team that is top 10 in returning production and has one of the best offensive play callers in the country.

Last season, the team stumbled to 5-7 behind a defense that was outside the top 100 in a handful of metrics as Patterson lost the locker room. The team moved on from the defensive minded Patterson and Dykes made the shrewd hire of former Tulsa defensive coordinator Joe Gillespie. Gillespie's 3-3-5 defense should give a team like Colorado fits given that the team has limited downfield threats.

TCU will give up plays underneath and Colorado will struggle to move the chains. The team was outside the top 100 nationally in explosive runs and yards per pass attempt last season and I expect their dismal offense to continue their poor play in 2022.

Look, there's not much value in betting this number that has moved nearly a touchdown since opening, but the Horned Frogs are set to throttle this team. Duggan and Morris are in a quarterback competition and are going to play a majority of the game and be motivated to show out.

Colorado is going to be a basement dwelling PAC-12 team and TCU has Big 12 Championship upside. I think this one gets ugly in Boulder.

TCU at under two touchdowns is the play.
