The Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans will begin the preseason on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. EST in what will be an interesting matchup.

Two teams that used to have disgruntled quarterbacks that were subject of trade rumors all offseason, now the Packers have Aaron Rodgers back as their starter while the Texans are holding still on Deshaun Watson’s trade request.

We may not see either quarterback in Saturday’s game, as Rodgers isn’t expected to see much if any action this preseason and Watson is currently the No. 4 quarterback on Houston’s depth chart.

For the Packers, that means a ton of playing time for second-year quarterback Jordan Love, which should be fun for fans to see what the future holds. Love was almost thrust into action this season before Rodgers decided to return for the 2021 campaign.

Here’s how the odds are looking at WynnBET

Packers vs. Texans Spread, Odds and Over/Under

Spread:

Packers -3.0 (-110)

Texans +3.0 (-110)

Moneyline:

Packers: -160

Texans: +135

Over/Under: 35.0 (Over: -115/Under: -105)

Texans vs. Packers Betting Trends

Matt LaFleur only has four games of preseason coaching experience, but Texans head coach David Culley has none.

LaFleur’s teams have gone over the total in all four of his preseason games, and with Love expected to get a lot of playing time, the Packers offense should run pretty smoothly for a preseason game. Green Bay was the NFL’s highest scoring team last season.

Houston was one of the worst teams against the spread last season in the NFL (6-10) and it has a lot to work through on both sides of the ball.

Packers vs. Texans Prediction and Pick

Even without Rodgers and Watson, I’m going to take the over on the total at -115 odds because of the Texans’ horrible defense and the fact that Love isn’t your average backup quarterback.

LaFleur likely wants to get a long look at his second-year signal caller, so I’d expect the Packers to give him a chance to prove he can play.

Houston is in a tough spot with its quarterback situation, and even though Tyrod Taylor seems like the starter, it’s an underwhelming group without Watson. Give the Packers to cover the three-point spread.
