Both the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams won their first preseason game yet ended the 2021 season in completely different ways.

Los Angeles, of course, won the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, Houston finished with one of the NFL's worst records. The Texans do have reason for optimism though, as second-year quarterback Davis Mills showed improvement throughout the season and rookie running back Dameon Pierce looked dominant in last week's victory.

Bryce Perkins was fantastic manning Sean McVay's offense last week, throwing two touchdowns and running for another.

Can Houston pick up a moral victory by beating the Super Bowl champions or will Los Angeles keep rolling?

Texans vs Rams Prediction and Pick

I've been a fan of Bryce Perkins for a while, as his Virginia Cavaliers turned into one of my favorite college teams to bet on back in 2019. He was exceptional in last week's preseason game, and I expect his dual-threat ability to be on display once again against the Texans.

Sean McVay is an offensive mastermind, and his schematic advantages are on display even in meaningless preseason games. Thus, I think the Rams have excellent value as short home favorites this week.

That being said, I also love the under. Houston should rely on its running game, while Perkins' rushing ability will drain the clock as well. This total is just too high for a team with as many offensive holes as the Texans have, and there's a reason the under is 5-1 in Houston's last six preseason games.

Back the Rams to win a low-scoring game as Perkins continues to shine.

Pick: Rams -1.5 (-110) and Under 38.0 (-110)
