The Texas Longhorns are “All Gas, No Brakes” under Steve Sarkisian in 2021.

After another disappointing year, Texas decided to move on from Tom Herman and bring in Alabama’s offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian to run the show. Texas is hoping it can get back to the Big 12 title game and return to the good ole’ days of the 2000's.

According to WynnBET, Texas will take a step in the right direction, but ultimately fall short of contending for a Big 12 title game. The Longhorns are +650 to win the Big 12, coming in behind Oklahoma (-112) and Iowa State (+350). They made it to the conference championship game in 2019, lost and finished the season off with a Sugar Bowl win.

As for the regular season, Texas’ win total line is set at 7.5, with the over (-325) heavily favored against the under (+100). Although improvement is projected, the fans in Austin will want to see that 7.5 win total shattered this year.

Doing that will be a challenge, though. Along with a new coach, Texas also has a new quarterback under center, Casey Thompson. He sat behind now-Indianapolis Colts quarterback Sam Ehlinger for two seasons, but this year he will finally get his opportunity to play. Thompson will have big shoes to fill, as Ehlinger accounted for 127 total touchdowns across his four seasons.

Thompson won’t be left alone to make all the plays. Second-year running back Bijan Robinson will be right next to Thompson and will most likely be the main playmaker for Texas. Robinson has +375 odds to win the Heisman Trophy in 2021 after a stellar freshman campaign.

Robinson averaged almost 100 scrimmage yards a game last season in a three-headed backfield. This season, the stage is set for Robinson to carry the workload for the Longhorns.

Everything is bigger in Texas, and the Longhorns’ expectations perfectly fit that description.
