Texas Tech vs. Kansas State Prediction, Odds, Spread and Over/Under for College Football Week 5
By Reed Wallach
We knew the Big 12 was going to be as competitive as ever this season, and we saw that first hand on Saturday night.
Kansas State went into Norman, Oklahoma and hand the conference favorite Sooners their first Big 12 loss of the season as two touchdown underdogs. Transfer quarterback Adrian Martinez and running back Deuce Vaughn were stellar in the upset as the Wildcats jumped to the top of the Big 12.
Can they follow it up at home against an upstart Texas Tech team that pulled an upset of their own, knocking off Texas as touchdown underdogs at home last week.
Here are the odds for this intriguing conference showdown:
Texas Tech vs. Kansas State Odds, Spread and Total
Texas Tech vs. Kansas State Betting Trends
- Kansas State is 23-12-1 against the spread (ATS) under head coach Chris Klieman
- Kansas State is 3-1 ATS this season, but the only non cover came as a favorite
- Texas Tech has gone OVER in 3 of 4 games this season, Kansas State has gone UNDER in 3 of 4 games
Texas Tech vs. Kansas State Prediction and Pick
Both teams are going to look to attack on the ground as Kansas State has the dual threat Martinez and one of the best running backs in the country in Vaughn. Meanwhile, Texas Tech continues to lean on backup quarterback Donnavan Smith's ability to pick up yards on the ground to set up the passing game.
Each team's strength on defense is the front seven, each inside the top 30 in tackles for loss and top 20 in defensive success rate, but they can be had through the air. Both teams are outside the top 100 in explosive pass defense, and we saw Smith make big plays through the air last week in the upset over Texas, passing for 331 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
However, I lean towards the Wildcats defensive line winning out in this one. The Texas Tech offensive line has been suspect all season, the team has taken the 19th most sacks in the country this season.
I think we see Kansas State win on the ground and control the game flow at home. The Wildcats offensive line has been stellar this season, top 20 in line yards and has opened up holes on the ground as the team averages more than 5.5 yards per carry.
I lean towards the home favorite in this Big 12 showdown.
