Texas Tech vs. Texas Prediction and Pick
In the previous matchup, the Red Raiders just blitzed the Longhorns from the very beginning of the game, holding them to 29 points at halftime. They took away Texas' ability to get any uncontested shots as the Longhorns shot just 26% from three-point range.
This time, Texas will be ready to go.
Mark Adams is a deserving candidate for Big 12 Coach of the Year, raising the level of Tech's defense to top 3 in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency.
The Longhorns have two decisive advantages over the Red Raiders in this game: forcing turnovers and free throw shooting. Texas comes in forcing turnovers on 24.2% of opposing possessions; ranking 12th in the country. The Red Raiders are very turnover-prone on offense, ranking 235th via KenPom.
Then, there's the free throw shooting woes. The Red Raiders shoot just 70% from the line compared to the Longhorns at 75.7%. With a 3-point spread for the home team, clutch free throw shooting and a few more favorable calls at home should come in handy, especially if it stays close.
Texas has also been a much better team at home this season, going 15-1 straight up and 9-7-0 against the spread.
This line is likely to continue to move towards Texas' side, considering it opened consensus at Texas -1.5. Jump in quickly before it keeps climbing.
PICK: Texas -3 (-110)
