'The Field' Gaining Major Momentum in Heisman Race as Oddsmakers Weigh In
By Ben Heisler
Just a week ago, oddsmakers and the betting public were ready to stick a collective fork in the Heisman Trophy race and hand out the award to Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Now, even with Alabama's Bryce Young as the top favorite, multiple players are starting to make a move closer to the top.
After opening up last week at +4000, 'The Field' has continued to climb up the board at WynnBET. On Sunday, November 28th, it had moved all the way up to +1200. As of Thursday late afternoon, it's now tied with Stroud at +350!
While quarterbacks such as Pittsburgh's Kenny Pickett, or Western Kentucky's Bailey Zappe are likely to be a part of the conversation with championship games remaining on their schedule, the name moving the needle in this category is Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. The likely top 5 pick in next year's NFL Draft was the best player on the field in "The Game" vs. Ohio State, and setting the Wolverines' all-time single-season sack record in the process.
As our Reed Wallach wrote earlier this week, Hutchinson has all the spotlight and with another dominant performance as a big favorite vs. Iowa, Michigan could have their second defensive player to win the Heisman, following Charles Woodson in 1997.
In my opinion, this is a two-man award, and Hutchinson should be closer to 8-1. Recency bias is king with a narrative-driven award like this, and Hutchinson is peaking at the right time to ride the wave to New York, and hoist the Heisman Trophy.
Here's how the current finalists look on the board at WynnBET:
2021 Updated Heisman Trophy Odds
- Bryce Young - Alabama +190
- C.J. Stroud - Ohio State +350
- The Field +350
- Matt Corral - Ole Miss +4000
- Desmond Ridder - Cincinnati +10000
- Spencer Sanders - Oklahoma State +50000

Do Oddsmakers Expect a Surprise Winner for the Heisman Trophy?
WynnBET Senior Trader Motoi Pearson shared his perspective on the recent flood of bets to the rest of the field candidates.
“Having a field up in this specific scenario has been unique because of how close this race has been between several players. Aidan Hutchinson is the latest addition of factoring into this price after his dominant performance against Ohio State. The number we had up was essentially too high at +1200 and we needed to be smart considering how these final games could impact the race and all the players considered in the race.”
With Stroud back on the sidelines as Ohio State awaits their playoff or bowl game future, Hutchinson looks even more like a noteworthy candidate if his outstanding play continues.
Meanwhile, the other key question is how will Heisman voters evaluate Bryce Young's outing vs. No. 1 Georgia? If he's dominant, he's the winner, but the Bulldogs own college football's top rated defense and will look to make a major statement against their SEC rivals.
