The Tour Championship Is Now a Two-Man Race
For the third week in a row, I have an outright bet in contention on Sunday at the PGA Tour event. Two weeks ago, Cameron Smith blew it for me at 40/1 by yanking his first tee-shot out-of-bounds in a playoff against Tony Finau, and then last week Bryson DeChambeau lost at 25/1 in what seemed like a never-ending playoff against Patrick Cantlay.
This week's Tour Championship is the finale for the PGA Tour season and the FedEx Cup Playoffs. With only one round left to go, the $15 million prize is seemingly going to go to one of two people. Cantlay, who started the tournament in first place at 10-under par, will enter today’s round with a two-stroke lead over Jon Rahm.
I gave out Rahm as my best bet to win the Tour Championship, so let’s hope that the third time’s the charm.
It would be surprising if someone outside of these two golfers will win the FedEx Cup today.
Live Odds to Win the Tour Championship
Here are the top five odds to win today’s Tour Championship via WynnBET Sportsbook.
- Patrick Cantlay -116
- Jon Rahm +145
- Justin Thomas +1000
- Kevin Na +10000
- Hideki Matsuyama +100000
Don’t be Fooled Into Betting on Thomas
As you can tell by the odds, the only other golfer outside of Cantlay and Rahm who has a realistic shot today is Justin Thomas, but I would recommend not wasting your money on him at 10/1.
East Lake Golf Club isn’t exactly a birdie fest, so catching the leader is going to be a lot harder to do than it would be at a course like Cave Valley last week. Thomas would need to go low, and he would need both Cantlay and Rahm to stumble today, which is hard to imagine given how good both golfers have played in recent events.
Thomas will start the day three strokes back from Rahm and five strokes back from Cantlay.
Hedging is Always an Option
If you have a bet on either Cantlay or Rahm, the option to hedge your bet is there. If you bet on Cantlay pre-tournament, then go ahead and place a bet on Rahm before today’s round. If you bet on Rahm pre-tournament, like I did, place a few dollars on Cantlay before they tee-off.
If you hedge properly, you can guarantee yourself a profit at the end of the day barring a collapse by both golfers that leaves the door open for Thomas.
