The Pittsburgh Steelers are on a three-game win streak heading into their Week 9 Monday Night Football game against the Bears. While the Steelers would love to go for four-in-a-row, another historic streak is on the line.

The Steelers have dominated Monday Night Football games at home for a very long time. So long that the last time the Steelers lost at home on Monday night, the Soviet Union was still not totally dissolved.

It’s crazy to consider but, its true. The Steelers haven’t lost a MNF at home since 1991. I say at home and not Heinz Field because this streak extends so far back that the Steelers were still playing at Three Rivers Stadium. The quarterback back then was Neil O’Donnell. Winning quarterbacks during the streak include Tommy Maddox, Kordell Steward, Mike Tomczak, Mason Rudolph, and Ben Roethlisberger.

It should come as no surprise that Big Ben has racked up most of the 19 MNF wins for the Steelers with a 6-0 record since 2005.

Not only are 20-straight wins on the line, but the Steelers also have a shot at becoming the first team to win 50 Monday Night Football Games. Pitt has a 49-25 overall record on Monday night but, another team also has 49 MNF wins. The San Francisco 49ers are 49-29 on Monday night. Ironically, the 49ers have a chance at 50 in Week 10. This will give Pittsburgh all the more reason to come out of this game with a win.

So, from a historic standpoint, there is a lot on the line for the Steelers tomorrow night. Luckily for them, they are going up against the Chicago Bears. The Bears offense is tragically bad this season and will have a hard time against the Steelers. A hard time might be an understatement. I think this team could get shutout tomorrow night. Quarterback Justin Fields is coming off a “career game” where he passed for 175 yards and ran for an additional 103. He totaled two touchdowns and threw one interception. A fine performance but if that is your career best, it might be time to go back to the drawing board.

With both recent and old history at their backs, the Pittsburgh Steelers should cruise to their 20th straight MNF win and 50th overall.
