This Tom Brady Quote Terrifies Me
If his younger days, Tom Brady seemed like the key piston propelling the seemingly-indestructible machine that was the New England Patriots. The one year he broke down, so too did the team. Outside of that, it felt like they were either in the Super Bowl or winning it every other year...and sometimes (many times?) multiple years in a row.
That's why when he switched teams, projected a new laidback, Floridian persona and promptly won his seventh Super Bowl, the prevailing thought dancing around my innocent head was Brady had changed and was now simply enjoying the ride into the sunset while collecting more hardware and cementing his place as the GOAT of GOATs in the NFL.
How naive I was.
Not only is Brady still out there working his ass off and somehow looking younger now than he did 10 years ago, but it seems his drive, for whatever reason, remains as high as when he was battling Drew Bledsoe for the Patriots starting job in 2001. You'd think that after 20-plus years of this he'd finally take the foot off the gas. No such luck.
I don’t think there’s any aspect of me that thinks what I’ve done last year means anything.
That quote from Brady following practice yesterday illustrates everything this cyborg stands for. He wins a Super Bowl in his first year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team that had been atrocious for a decade previous, and still doesn't feel what he does means anything, which AKA means he's still just as driven in year 4,000 of his NFL career as he was year one.
Terrifying.
Whether Brady is a human or not remains undetermined. His body certainly doesn't play by the same rules as virtually every other NFL quarterback to play the sport over the last 100 years. Which makes presenting a case for him to win a fourth league MVP and eighth Super Bowl easy.
Beyond his own body of work, Brady has arguably the best receiving corp in the NFL this season (Mike Evans, Antonio Brown, Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski, OJ Howard), three talented running backs behind him (Leonard Fournette, Ronald Jones and Giovani Bernard) and one of the best offensive lines in the league. Throw in the defense that dominated in the playoffs last year and you have a clear reason to believe these Bucs could win a second straight Super Bowl and Brady could win the MVP.
On WynnBET, Brady's odds to win the MVP are +1200 (bet $100 to win $1200) and the Bucs odds to win the Super Bowl are (+650). I feel like that's decent value considering Brady seems as driven as ever, maybe even more so knowing he can't play this game forever...right?
It seems Brady's revenge tour, whether against Bill Belichick or whoever else, isn't over. He wants to rub his success in the face of everyone who ever doubted him and seems as determined as ever to do so in 2021. NFL beware.
