It was supposed to be a year of hope for the Detroit Tigers, but it has been anything but as the team sits at 26-42 on the year.

However, one of the few bright spots for the team is Wednesday's starter Tarik Skubal. Skubal has a puncher's chance at the Cy Young, but the team's struggles will likely keep him out of the mix, but he's got a shot to prove himself once again when facing one of the hottest lineups in baseball in the Boston Red Sox.

What should we expect with the lowly Tigers receiving respect in the market? Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Tigers vs. Red Sox Odds, Run Line, Total

Run Line:

  • Tigers: +1.5 (-190)
  • Red Sox: -1.5 (+155)

Moneyline:

  • Tigers: +119
  • Red Sox: -129

Total: 8 (Over -105/Under -115)

Tigers vs. Red Sox Prediction and Pick

I'm going to back Skubal to show up for the Tigers yet again and for the team to give him some run support. The second year pro is pitching to 3.13 ERA this season, but his FIP indicates that he should be doing even better with some help in the field, sitting at 2.48. Most of this is based on the fact that Skubal has been able to limit his walk rate and generate more whiffs from batters. He is walking less than two batters per 9 innings and has a 1.085 WHIP.

On the other side, Michael Wacha has been fantastic for the Red Sox in his first season wtih the club, but I believe he is overvalued and due for some negative regression. He has a 2.28 ERA that is matched with a 3.84 FIP, meaning that he is skating by with his strong marks. A lot of this has to do with his dwindling strikeout rate, now sitting below seven K/9 on the year.

Detroit is sixth in bullpen ERA this season, but can the offense get to Wacha? I think at this price it's fair to believe so.

LEAN: Tigers ML (+119)
