Minnesota is officially all-in on 2022, acquiring All-Star closer Jorge Lopez from the Orioles at the deadline yesterday. The Twins have a narrow lead in the AL Central but hope to take advantage of a winnable matchup against the Detroit Tigers with Joe Ryan facing Tyler Alexander.

Ryan is coming off an embarrassing disaster of a performance, giving up 10 runs to the Padres in just 4.2 innings. Prior to that debacle though, he'd allowed more than three runs just twice in 15 starts.

Alexander is a reliever but will make his sixth start of the year due to injury. Things haven't gone well in those outings, as Alexander has a 7.76 ERA as a starter and Detroit lost each game.

Can the Tigers play spoiler or will Minnesota's quest to the playoffs march on? Let's take a peak at the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook to help find out:

  • Twins -1.5 (-105)

Tigers vs Twins Prediction and Pick

The Twins have MLB's fifth-best OPS against left-handed pitchers over the last three weeks and I'm expecting a big day from their lineup against Tyler Alexander. A former second-round pick, Alexander has been dreadful as a starter and his MLB Statcast Pitching Profile illustrates his struggles:

That won't do. Especially against Joe Ryan, who I trust to bounce back after last week's disastrous outing against San Diego. Ryan has a 3.05 ERA at home, where the Twins have three straight wins behind him.

Heading into yesterday's slate, the Tigers were 2-13 in their last 15 as road favorites. With a lineup that ranks 29th in OPS against right-handed pitchers over the last three weeks, I don't see Detroit pulling off the upset.

Back Minnesota on the run line to take advantage of Alexander's struggles while Ryan rebounds in a stellar outing.

Pick: Twins -1.5 (-105)
