Tigers vs. White Sox Prediction and Odds for Saturday, July 9 (Hill's First Start Looks Like a Fluke)
By Josh Yourish
The earliest game on the Saturday slate is in the southside of Chicago between the Tigers and the White Sox.
Detroit was hot coming into the series with a four-game sweep of Cleveland and now look to keep it rolling Saturday afternoon with Garrett Hill making his second big-league start.
Chicago goes with Johnny Cueto on the mound making his 10th start of the year.

Tigers vs. White Sox Prediction and Pick
Garrett Hill acquitted himself very nicely in his first start five days ago. He only gave up one run on two hits through six innings of work.
Does that mean that he was ready to make that jump to the big leagues and the success will continue, or was Cleveland struggling and had no real scouting report on Hill which worked to his advantage? Maybe he can jump on Chicago the way he did Cleveland or maybe, they have six innings worth of information and are ready to attack the first year pro.
The data tells me that Hill might have had luck on his side against the Guardians.
Hill earned a fielding independent pitching of 4.77 in a one run outing. On 16 batted balls he allowed a hard hit percentage of 50.0%, a sweet spot percentage above league average and had an expected slugging percentage of .484, 74 points above league average. He is a sinker ball pitcher who earned a lot of outs on pop ups and fly outs. Only 25% of his batted balls were ground balls compared to the MLB average of 44.9%.
It is a very small sample size, but when you dig into his first start it does not look like the success will continue.
Pick: White Sox -1.5 (+115)
