Tigers vs. White Sox Prediction and Odds for Saturday, August 13 (Do Tigers Have Pitching Edge?)
By Joe Summers
As the Cleveland Guardians surge, the Chicago White Sox fall. They're 3.5 games behind Cleveland in the AL Central, but face a winnable matchup today against the Detroit Tigers with Lucas Giolito on the mound.
Unfortunately for the Southsiders, Giolito is having a brutal season. He's got a 9.38 ERA in his last four home starts, including giving up five runs to these Tigers last month. As a result, the White Sox are just 1-4 in Giolito's last five outings at Guaranteed Rate Field.
The Tigers have five straight losses but have faith in Matt Manning, who threw seven scoreless innings against the Rays last week. With a 2.25 ERA through four starts, Manning likely gives Detroit the upper hand on the mound.
Can Detroit capitalize? Or will Giolito solve his woes to deliver a strong performance?

Tigers vs White Sox Prediction and Pick
The White Sox have fumbled great opportunities all season long, and I anticipate another dud from Tony La Russa's group today. At the very least, I love the odds of +170 on the Tigers, as I see this as a much closer matchup.
Chicago is reeling from the loss of Tim Anderson to injury. It's 15-19 without Anderson on the season and hasn't scored more than three runs in five straight games.
Matt Manning looks stellar for Detroit too, having not allowed more than three runs in any of his four starts. That includes surrendering just one to the Red Sox and Rays each, both lineups with more pop than the White Sox.
Lucas Giolito, on the other hand, should give the Tigers opportunities to score. He's walked at least three batters in three straight starts and has an expected FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) above 3.60 for five consecutive outings, including three starts over 4.12.
The Tigers' lineup is atrocious, but the White Sox don't capitalize on these opportunities. At +170, we're getting great odds on Manning to continue his stellar play and Giolito to maintain his struggles.
Pick: Tigers (+170)
