Tigers vs. White Sox Prediction: Chicago Heavy Favorites in Lopsided Pitching Matchup
By Thomas Snodgrass
The Chicago White Sox are the AL Central Champions for the first time since 2008, and the scrappy Detroit Tigers have won 76 games, their most since 2016, and are trending in the right direction. Which AL Central team will walk away winners tonight?
Matt Manning (4-7, 6.16 ERA) gets the start today for Detroit. The 23-year old right-hander will be making his third consecutive start against the White Sox, and Manning has allowed nine runs in the last 8 ⅓ innings against the Southsiders.
Lucas Giolito (11-9, 3.58 ERA) gets the nod today and he has pitched well after the All-Star break, posting a 2.71 ERA in his last 12 starts.

Tigers vs. White Sox Prediction
Chicago are heavy favorites here as evidenced by the -2.5 on the run line. The Detroit lineup has given Giolito fits at times, so I’m not sure about the line. Giolito has a .278 opponent average against the Tigers and has allowed seven home runs against them. That’s not that spectacular, and to me, shouldn’t warrant such a large spread on the run line.
Manning has been awful against the White Sox, Giolito has not been great against Detroit, so I expect there to be quite a few runs in this one.
I’ll fade the large differences on the moneyline and run line, and I’ll take the over 9 at +100.
