The Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox will face off at Guarantee Rate Field in Chicago to close out their 2021 seasons.

Right-hander Wily Peralta takes the ball for the Tigers and has been a quietly effective starter in this rebuilding Detroit rotation. Peralta has posted an ERA of 3.08 this year in 18 games (17 starts), and has allowed just five earned runs since the start of September, recording a 1.75 ERA in 25 ⅔ innings of work in the final month.

The White Sox will send righty Lance Lynn to the bump. Once viewed as a potential AL Cy Young candidate, Lynn has crumbled of late, posting an ERA of 3.82 after the All-Star Break; he had recorded a 1.99 ERA in his first 16 starts prior to the Mid-Summer Classic.

Tigers vs. White Sox Prediction

Although Lynn has struggled lately, he has still pitched well against Detroit this season, allowing just eight hits in 42 at-bats against (.190 opponent average). If this game is still close after five, I like the bullpen backing Lynn more than the bullpen backing up Peralta.

Peralta, despite pitching in the AL Central, has yet to face Chicago this season. That lineup is a lot different from the weaker lineups of the Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Indians, and Kansas City Royals.

I really think this game is going to be a close matchup, and I can’t ignore the run line sitting at +1.5 (+110) for the Tigers. This scrappy Detroit team has a run differential of -54, only six runs off the Seattle Mariners differential of -48, and Seattle is looking for a playoff spot.

I’m taking the Tigers on the run line at +1.5 (+110).
