What follows is a sentence I did not think I would write during the 2022 MLB season. Here goes.

The Detroit Tigers are hot right now.

Yeah, I know, crazy. But, it's true. The Tigers swept the Guardians early in the week and then beat the Chicago White Sox in the first two games of this series. It blows my mind just how bad the White Sox turned out this year and this was just the newest setback for them.

Can they get their stuff together enough to at least beat the lowly Tigers or will the suffering in Chicago continue?

Here are the odds for this game from consensus sportsbooks.

Tigers vs. White Sox Odds, Run Line, and Total

Run Line

  • Tigers: +1.5 (-120)
  • White Sox: -1.5 (+100)

Moneyline:

  • Tigers: +160
  • White Sox: -190

Total:

  • Total 9 (Over +100/Under -120)

Tigers vs. White Sox Prediction and Pick

Despite the fact that Michael Kopech gets paid millions for throwing and catching a baseball, I kinda feel bad for the guy. He’s been very good this year with a 3.34 ERA and 1.13 WHIP, yet is stuck on a tragically underperforming team.

Because of this, he is saddled with a 2-6 overall record and hasn’t notched a win since June 7. The White Sox dropped his last five starts in a row and continue to play nothing like the team most of us expected. So, does it matter that his BAA is .133 against Detroit if the White Sox can’t score? If his record is any indication, it does not matter at all.

So, go Tigers, right? If only that was an option this game would be a lot easier to predict. Sadly, even after all the trash I talked on Chicago above, Detroit is still a much worse team. They also have a very questionable Drew Hutchison on the mound.

Hutch is 1-4 with a 4.30 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. He is primarily a bullpen pitcher but will make his fourth start of the year for the Tigers. So it’s a no go on the Tigers.

With no value on the ML at all here, I’m going to make a play on the RL with Chicago covering when all is said and done.

Pick: White Sox -1.5 (+100)
