Tigers vs. Yankees Prediction and Odds for Saturday, June 4 (Yankees Are Nightmare Matchup for Beau Brieske)
By Joe Summers
The New York Yankees host the Detroit Tigers in the second game of a three-game series today at 1:05 PM EST.
Luis Severino gets the nod for New York after giving up four runs in a loss to the Rays his last time out. He's 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA on the season and threw eight shutout innings against the White Sox in his most recent home start.
Detroit will counter with Beau Brieske, who has a 0-4 record and 5.25 ERA across seven starts. Brieske got nailed for three home runs by Minnesota last week, so he'll need to avoid hard contact to have a chance against New York's vaunted lineup.
Can Severino and the Yanks stay hot or will Brieske finally earn his first major league win?

Tigers vs Yankees Prediction and Pick
Entering the series, Detroit was 7-2 in their last nine as their oft-injured pitching staff and lineup are starting to gel. But the Yankees are a matchup nightmare for Beau Brieske and the Tigers' hot streak should come to an end.
New York leads MLB in home runs per game and Brieske has had a difficult time keeping the ball in play. He gave up three home runs to the modest Twins lineup in his last start and in total, has surrendered 10 already this season.
Brieske's 2.50 HR/9 rate ranks dead-last in MLB among qualified pitchers and he's struggled with command as well. Take a peak at his MLB Statcast pitching profile from Baseball Savant:
The Yankees aren't hitting well right now, but Brieske is the perfect pitcher to tee off against.
Meanwhile, the Tigers lineup shouldn't be able to keep up the pace. They rank 28th in OPS against right-handed pitchers over the last two weeks and Luis Severino is in the 81st percentile in expected ERA and 85th in expected batting average.
In Severino's nine starts, the Yankees are 7-2 with six of the wins coming by multiple runs. Back New York to improve to 18-4 over their last 22 home games as their lineup takes advantage of Brieske's deficiencies. Take a long look at Yankees' home run props too - the ball is going to be flying in this one.
Pick: Yankees -1.5 (-110)
