Tony Casillas Says NFL Has to Correct Roughing the Passer Penalties | BetSided Exclusive Interview
This week, I got the chance to sit down with legendary Oklahoma Sooners defensive lineman, and two time Super Bowl winner with the Dallas Cowboys, Tony Casillas to talk all things football.
We touched on how his Dallas Cowboys shape up with the rest of the NFC, their Week 6 Sunday Night Football game against the Philadelphia Eagles, and the recent issues with referees calling too many "roughing the passer" penalties. I also had to ask him about his slumping Oklahoma Sooners.
Few people are better to talk with about sacking the quarterback more than Tony Casillas, who totaled 23 sacks throughout his NFL career in the late 80's and '90s. With how quick referees are to calling penalties on what are seemingly clean plays, I had to get his thoughts.
Q: I hate to say this, but is it going to get to the point where we're reviewing roughing the passer?
A: They gotta correct it. They gotta meet and they gotta decide. Look, this is going to be an issue. When it's a big play involved, and that comes into play, it's going to be really embarrassing for the National Football League.
Being that his Dallas Cowboys, the team he won two Super Bowls with, are off to a strong 4-1 start, I wanted to know if he'd be willing to bet on them this Sunday against the Cowboys.
"Would I take the Eagles?" Casillas said. "No. I'm going to take the points and I'm going to bet on the Cowboys to win."
If you want to back Tony, and take the Cowboys to win outright, they're still available at +235 to pull off the Sunday night upset.
We finished the interview talking about his work as an ambassador for the NFL Alumni Association's Huddle Up: Let's Talk Obesity campaign. The campaign targets everyone, not just former athletes, to make sure they're taking care of their health and wellness as they get older.
You can find out more about the campaign here.
Be sure to watch the full interview above, to hear his full thoughts on all things Cowboys, Sooners, and who will contend in the NFC this season.
