Looking to place some bets on Major League Baseball on Tuesday?

You've come to the right place, as the BetSided team shares some of their favorite plays each day for the MLB action. Today, Peter Dewey, Iain MacMillan and Josh Yourish have an underdog and two favorites for you to consider, with odds from FanDuel Sportsbook.

Chicago White Sox vs. Seattle Mariners Odds, Prediction and Pick

  • Run line: White Sox +1.5 (-170) | Mariners -1.5 (+140)
  • Moneyline: White Sox +126 | Mariners -148
  • Total: 7.5 (Over -110/Under -110)

Johnny Cueto is quietly having one of the best seasons of his career, sporting a 2.93 WHIP. Not only that, but he has been fantastic on the road, sporting a 1.81 ERA in nine road starts in 2022.

Despite that, the White Sox are significant underdogs to Logan Gilbert and the Mariners. Gilbert has also been fantastic, with a 3.35 ERA, but he's regressed in the second half of the season, sporting a 4.84 ERA in eight starts since the All-Star break.

He's in for a tough challenge tonight, as he takes on the White Sox offense that ranks ninth in OPS since August 1st. During the same time span, the Mariners rank 18th in that stat.

I think tonight's matchup is a lot closer than the odds indicated. I'll back the White Sox as underdogs.

Pick: White Sox +126 -- Iain MacMillan

Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays Odds, Prediction and Pick

  • Run Line: Red Sox: +1.5 (-160) | Rays: -1.5 (+132)
  • Moneyline: Red Sox: +136 | Rays: -162
  • Total: 7 (Over -118/Under -104)

Want to talk about a lopsided pitching matchup? Because we have one here.

Rich Hill is still kicking it in MLB (happy for him), but he hasn’t been effective lately for Boston, allowing 14 earned runs over his last five starts (just 23.0 innings of work).

Meanwhile, Drew Rasmussen is turning into one of the better young pitchers in baseball, going 11 consecutive starts without allowing more than three runs, moving his ERA from 3.30 to 2.70 on the season.

Both of these offenses have been solid over the last month, with Boston ranking fourth in OPS and Tampa Bay coming in at No. 10 in MLB.

So, when you have a better starting pitcher and the No. 7 bullpen (by ERA) in baseball, you’re going to have the advantage. That’s what Tampa has here, and Boston’s 26th ranked bullpen isn’t going to do it any favors even if Hill pitches well.

Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros Odds, Prediction and Pick

  • Run Line: Rangers: +1.5 (+110) | Astros: -1.5 (-132)
  • Moneyline: Rangers: +225 | Astros: -275
  • Total: 7.5 (Over -105/Under -115)

The Astros just keep ripping off wins. They have won 10 of their last 13 games and have an 87-48 record, the best in the American League. Framber Valdez is a big reason for their success, especially in August. He won all five of his starts in the month and is now 14-4 with a 2.63 ERA. At 28, he is having the best year of his career and is filling in nicely with Justin Verlander on the IL briefly.

Valdez has made four starts against the Rangers this season and has absolutely dominated them. He is 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA in 28.0 innings pitched, and has 28 strikeouts to five walks. The Rangers actually hit well against lefties this season, just not Valdez. Texas is No. 8 in the league in OPS against left-handed pitching.

There is no reason to suspect that Valdez will just suddenly start to struggle against Texas, so I think tonight the Astros win and they win big. The Texas losing streak will reach double digits tonight.

Pick: Astros -1.5 (-132) -- Josh Yourish
