Top NHL Picks and Predictions Today (Back the Underdogs Tonight)
I went 1-2 with my NHL picks last night, and unfortunately lost my first two-unit bet of the season.
It's a new day, and we have a strong NHL slate of games to pick from.
Without wasting any time, let's dive into my top three bets in the NHL for Tuesday, February 15th.
All odds listed below are via WynnBET Sportsbook.
Bruins vs. Rangers Prediction and Pick
I've stated my opinion about the Rangers, I'm still not buying that they're a top team in the NHL, therefore I'll be fading them again tonight.
Over each team's last 25 games, the Rangers rank 30th in CORSI%, 16th in high danger scoring chances, and 31st in high danger scoring chances against. If it wasn't for the stellar play of goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who should be a shoe-in to win the Vezina Trophy, the Rangers would be a basement dweller in the NHL.
During that same stretch, the Bruins have been one of the best defensive teams in the NHL, ranking sixth in high danger scoring chances against. I'll back them as underdogs tonight.
Pick: Bruins +130
Capitals vs. Predators Prediction and Pick
Who do you trust in a battle between two teams who have been stumbling over the last month?
The Capitals rank 12th in the NHL in CORSI% over their last 25 games, while the Predators rank 23rd. The Capitals also outrank the Preds in expected goals for per 60 minutes, and expected goals against per 60 minutes.
Nashville's goaltender, Juuse Saros, has been having a strong year, but he's also had a rough go in recent starts, allowing four goals in two-straight games.
I'm going to back Washington as an underdog today.
Pick: Capitals +125
Stars vs. Avalanche Prediction and Pick
I took a shot at Stars moneyline on Sunday and I regretted it, but I'm tempted to wager some money on them again tonight. I'm still not totally convinced that this Avalanche team is as good as their record indicates. They're sixth in CORSI% over their last 25 games, seventh in expected goals per 60 minutes, and 11th in expected goals against per 60 minutes. Sure, those numbers are great, but you'd expect a team that hasn't lost in regulation in two months to rank in the top five in those categories.
I'm not going to be as bold as I was on Sunday and take Stars on the moneyline, but backing them on the +1.5 puck line at -110 seems like a good spot. I expect at least some level of regression from the Avs in the coming weeks.
Pick: Stars +1.5 (-110)
