Top NHL Picks and Predictions Today (Best Bets for Day 10 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs)
We unfortunately had a losing night in the NHL playoffs, going 1-2-1 in the four games. A last minute empty-netter in the Hurricanes vs. Bruins game caused our push. Who pulls the goalie down 4-1 with four minutes left in the game?!
We're still well in the green, so not all is lost. I'm sitting at 20-15-1 (+4.68 units) based on the odds included in my Betstamp profile.
Tonight is the first night of the postseason that we don't have four games to bet on, with the Avalanche and Predators already being concluded.
Here are my top picks for tonight's three games. All odds listed are via WynnBET Sportsbook.
Penguins vs. Rangers Prediction and Pick
Before the series started, I was all over the Rangers. With that being said, this has been one of the few series that I have changed my opinion on. The Penguins are completely dominating the Rangers.
Through the first four games, the Penguins are averaging 19.18 high danger scoring chances per 60 minutes of 5-on-5 hockey. That's complete insanity. For perspective, the regular season leader in that stat was the Panthers, who averaged 14.29.
I don't know where the Rangers defense went, but they have been non-existent in this series. New York goaltender, Igor Shesterkin, can only do so much.
Based on how the first four games have gone, there's no way I can pass betting on the Penguins as underdogs tonight. They'll face the winner of the Hurricanes and Bruins series.
Pick: Penguins ML +112
Capitals vs. Panthers Prediction and Pick
I keep expecting the Panthers offense to explode, but outside of Game 2, they've failed to get going. So, instead of making the same mistake again, I'm going to look at the total and go with the OVER 6.5.
The Panthers are 46-31-5 on the OVER this season, and while it hasn't exactly been an offensive shootout of a series, I expect goals in tonight's game. There's two ways we can get there. For one, the Panthers offense may finally wake up. Or, Florida's goaltending will continue to struggle.
The Panthers rank 12th in save percentage amongst the 16 teams in the postseason, stopping just 88.39 percent of shots.
In what has been the most confusing series of the playoffs, I'll sit back and root for goals tonight.
Pick: OVER 6.5 (-120)
Stars vs. Flames Prediction and Pick
The Flames, believe it or not, have been the second most dominant team in the playoffs when it comes to analytics. They're second amongst all teams in the postseason in CORSI%, at 60.28%. If you look at expected goals, the Flames are 3.81 expected goals per 60 minutes, compared to the Stars at 2.73.
The only thing keeping the Stars in this series is goaltender Jake Oettinger, who has a playoff best .962 save percentage. He's a solid goalie, but he's playing well above his skill level and I don't expect this strong of play to continue for the rest of the series.
The Flames will get to him early in often in a hostile Calgary atmosphere tonight.
Pick: Flames -1.5 (+120)
