Top NHL Picks and Predictions Today (Trio of Games Set for Monday Night)
I took my annual post-Super Bowl vacation last week, and I was feeling refreshed and rejuvinated in my first day back to work yesterday, only to get slapped in the face by an 0-3 night in the NHL and college hoops.
But that's okay, it's Monday, which means it's a fresh week and I'm ready to dive head first into tonight's NHL slate.
Here are my best bets for tonight's trio of games. All odds listed are via WynnBET Sportsbook.
Maple Leafs vs. Capitals Prediction and Pick
The Maple Leafs goaltending play as of late gives me pause to bet on them. Starting goaltender Jack Campbell has a save percentage of .887, and Toronto ranks 26th in the NHL in team save percentage over their last 25 games. Look no further than them allowing seven goals to the lowly Red Wings in their last game out.
Because of that, this might be the time to look towards betting on the OVER in Maple Leafs' games until further notice. It also helps that they rank third in the league in shooting percentage (12.06%) over their last 25 games.
Until things begin to change, it's time to ride the OVER trend in any game involving the Leafs.
Pick: OVER 6 (-120)
Canucks vs. Devils Prediction and Pick
As hot as the Canucks have been lately, Jaroslav Halak is set to get the start tonight so now might be the time to fade them. He has an .899 save percentage this season, and a 2.93 goals against average. Now they face a Devils team that ranks in the top half of the NHL in high danger scoring chances, shooting percentage, and expected goals per 60 minutes over their last 25 games.
New Jersey also ranks higher than Vancouver in certain advanced analytics like CORSI% and FENWICK% during the same stretch.
If Thatcher Demko was between the pipes for the Canucks tonight, then they'd likely be the play at +100. But with Vancouver resting him tonight, it's time to plug your nose and wager on the Devils.
Pick: Devils -120
Bruins vs. Kings Prediction and Pick
I've been high on the Kings all season, and they're finally playing up to the level of play that their advanced analytics has shown they're capable of. They're second in the NHL in both CORSI% and high danger scoring chances over their last 25 games.
Meanwhile, the Bruins continue to struggle offensively. They're 19th in the league in high danger scoring chances over their past 25 games, and 23rd in shooting percentage over that same stretch.
I don't think this Kings hot streak is a fluke, and I'll jump on them as underdogs again tonight.
Pick: Kings +110
