Sky vs. Fever Best Bets
I’m going to keep this one fairly short. The Sky are the best team in the league and the Fever are the worst team in the league. Indiana was able to capture lightning in a bottle the last time against Chicago, winning 89-87. The Sky will look to avenge that loss and a close loss to the Minnesota Lynx. On top of all that, the Commissioner’s Cup is on the line.
Trust the Sky to bounce back feverishly. – Donnavan Smoot
Pick: Sky -9 vs. Fever (-110)
Anything can happen in the WNBA, and the league's best team, the Chicago Sky has lost in this very building to the league's worst team, the Indiana Fever earlier this year. Chicago is also playing a second game of a back-to-back on the road.
Vegas doesn't appear to be too considered, though. With the Commissioner's Cup on the line, the Sky are a 9-point favorite at WynnBET and should handle the Fever relatively easily. Indiana ranks 12 out of 12 in defensive rating, and are only ahead of Atlanta for worst offensive rating per WNBA Stats.
However, rather than risk the prospect of a bad beat late if Chicago rests their stars up big, I'm going to take the Sky to cover 3-points in the first quarter where they've been the best net-rating team all year (+15.3). As for Indiana, they're dead last in net rating for the first quarter (-19.8).
Chicago wins, but this feels like the safest approach to back them early where they play their best. – Ben Heisler
Pick: Sky 1Q -3 vs. Fever (-105)
Liberty vs. Mercury Best Bets
The Liberty have really turned up the heat in recent weeks. After a 7-game losing streak, the Liberty are 8-5 in their last 13 games. New York is coming into this matchup off the heels of an impressive win over the Aces. Tonight, they’ll face the Mercury and I expect them to be sharp offensively – pushing this game to the OVER.
The Mercury haven’t been great on offense as of late, missing the 80-point mark in threes straight games. However, the Liberty are still prone to giving up a lot of points – especially to a team that can bump up the pace just a little bit.
I’m going to trust Sabrina Ionescu to stay hot and provide a lot of offense tonight. – Donnavan Smoot
Pick: Liberty/Mercury OVER 163.5 (-110)
Donnavan and I disagree on this one, and maybe you should back him after I took the Aces (-11) to cover vs. the Liberty last night at home with the Commissioner's Cup on the line. Instead, Sabrina Ionescu finished with the highest-scoring triple-double in WNBA history as the Liberty dropped 116 on the Aces in a nine-point win.
I get that the Mercury have been impossible to try and handicap this year, but the Liberty have to be gassed after running up-and-down on Las Vegas last night and playing the second-leg of their road back-to-back in Phoenix. The Mercury's defense has actually been impressive over their last five games; allowing only one game over 78 points in a 91-75 loss to Chicago.
The Liberty hit a ton of threes last night, and while Phoenix will give up plenty, I don't think they go in at a historic rate for two nights in a row. – Ben Heisler
Pick: Liberty/Mercury UNDER 163.5 (-110)
Storm vs. Sparks Best Bets
If there’s one thing the Sparks know how to do, it’s push the pace. Los Angeles plays at the fourth-highest pace in the league and has been able to speed up Seattle in the two matchups this season. These teams are 1-1 against each other, but I’m taking the Storm in the rubber match.
Seattle is 5-2 in its last seven games and is making a run towards the top of the league. I’m going to put my faith in defense to help them pull away eventually. The Storm are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 games. They will bounce back from the last loss against the Sparks, even on the road. – Donnavan Smoot
Pick: Storm -5 vs. Sparks (-110)
Seattle currently holds the best defensive rating in the league, but whenever they get together with Los Angeles, these teams like to get up and down the court.
Both of their games went over the current total on the board in their last two games, with Seattle losing a disappointing home matchup by eight in their last meeting. The Storm scored just nine points in the final quarter as L.A outscored them 17-9 in the final 10. Seattle also shot terribly all game with the exception of Breanna Stewart and Ezi Macbegor, who made 14 of the team's 26 total field goals.
I expect another fun back-and-forth offensive battle in L.A. tonight as the Sparks look to enter the break with four straight wins and a return to .500. – Ben Heisler
Pick: Storm/Sparks OVER 161.5 (-110)
