Sky vs. Aces Prediction and Pick
The total in Las Vegas is by far and away the highest on the slate, and while I’ve been burned taking unders in Aces games in the past, the Sky feels like the right matchup to return to the well.
Both teams rank in the top 6 in opponent points per 100 possessions, as well as margin/100 possessions, so while their offenses are very good (No. 1 and No. 3 in PPG), they also defend as well. Chicago also plays at the fifth-slowest pace in the league, so they’re in no rush to break down the court vs. an Aces team who will want to push the tempo.
Both teams come off disappointing showing;, with the Sky uncharacteristically losing to the Fever on the road, while the Aces barely defeated a bad and hurt Lynx team by a single point at home. These are two of the top 3 teams in the league, and both will look to make a statement tonight.
The under has already hit once before in this matchup in Chicago, and I’ll back it to hit again in Vegas tonight.
Pick: Sky vs. Aces UNDER 176 (-110)
Dream vs. Wings Prediction and Pick
I suppose I could just as easily take Atlanta +4, but I’m backing the Dream to pull off the upset after their grueling four-game road trip came to a conclusion on Friday night.
Atlanta traveled to Seattle and Phoenix, then flew from the west coast to the east coast to Connecticut, back to the midwest vs. Chicago, and has had since Saturday to rest up and prepare for a Dallas team that’s won two straight after letting multiple games slip away late to Seattle and Las Vegas. Arike Ogunbowale continues to put up monster numbers, averaging 26.3 points and 4.3 assists over their last three games.
The Dream, despite their two worst defensive efforts of the season in back-to-back games still rank second in the WNBA in defensive rating, and trail the Mystics by 0.1 points (95). I expect them to clamp down against Dallas as they return on the road tonight. – Ben Heisler
Pick: Dream +150 ML vs. Wings
Mystics vs. Sparks Prediction and Pick
Considering how bad the Sparks are on defense, you’d think the OVER would be in play here. I believe the opposite. Washington is the slowest team in the league and will be able to slow down the Sparks – just like the Mystics slow everyone else down.
Washington is 4-14 against the OVER this season, which is a remarkable line. The Sparks’ offense is average as is and the Mystics’ league-leading defense will put the pressure on.
Unless the Sparks catch fire from deep, I don’t see this game opening up much. I think this game’s total should be in the 150s, so to see a 160+ total on the board is welcomed.
Pick: UNDER 163.5
Lynx vs. Mercury Prediction and Pick
On first glance, I thought about backing the Lynx, who have been one of my most common teams to bet on this season. However, they’ve let me down recently, so I’ll pick a side on the total in this one.
The Lynx and the Mercury are both in the bottom four in the league in defensive rating. That could lead you to take the OVER in this game, but let me provide you with more numbers. Both teams play at an average pace, so this game won’t see an excess of possessions. On top of that, the Mercury and Lynx are sixth and ninth, respectively, in offensive rating.
I think this is going to be a sloppy game, with neither team being able to find solid footing in this game.
Pick: UNDER 168
