Mercury vs. Sparks OVER 165 (-110)

Are we going to see a ton of offense Wednesday night? Or just a whole lot of bad defense?

Turns out, it might be a fun combination of both as Phoenix and L.A. match up at crypto.com Arena.

Both teams have been torched over their last three games, including giving up over 100 points on the road against the Las Vegas Aces in their most previous outings. Phoenix ranks dead last in the WNBA in opponent points per 100 possessions, while L.A. is in the bottom four. To the Mercury’s credit, they at least attempt to make up for their turnstyle defense by scoring quite often; ranking fourth in points per play and fourth in effective field goal percentage.

Phoenix has lost three in a row and the Sparks have dropped five straight. Rather than take a side, I’ll bet both teams try to shoot their way out of their skids in L.A. – Ben Heisler

Mercury ML vs. Sparks (-125)

While the Mercury and the Sparks have the same amount of wins, I think the Mercury are getting a bad wrap early in the season. They are 2-4, but have played – and lost to – the Aces three times already. The Aces are already a tough matchup for any team, but the Mercury are down a major piece. Without Brittney Griner, the Mercury don’t have a key inside presence to combat Las Vegas.

With all that said, the Mercury still have a solid chance against the frontcourt-led Los Angeles Sparks. The Mercury are in the 88th percentile in pace this season and have a higher offensive rating than the Sparks. Los Angeles is around the middle of the pack in a majority of their statistics, with nothing jumping off the page as an advantage.

I think Phoenix has had a tough schedule to start the season and tonight will be a turning point for the Mercury. – Donnavan Smoot
