Once again, I’m proud to announce that we had another perfect night yesterday. That makes us 5-0 in our last two nights. With the game of the year potentially taking place tonight, we’re ready to three-peat and get another no-loss night.

Tonight, the Sky and Aces face off in Las Vegas, with the No. 1 seed hanging in the balance. While that game is happening, the Sun travel to Los Angeles to try and potentially move up to the No. 2 spot.

It’s an exciting night in the league, so let’s get to our picks.

Best WNBA Picks For Thursday, August 11

  • Sky ML (+100) vs. Aces
  • Sun 1H -5.5 (-110) vs. Sparks
  • Sun -11 (-110) vs. Sparks

Sky vs. Aces Best Bets

As the odds show, this game is incredibly close. The Aces are 2-1 against the Sky this season, winning the Commissioner's Cup 93-83 in July. The road team has won each game this season and I’m backing Chicago to keep that trend up.

The Sky are coming off a loss to the Seattle Storm and need this win to essentially lock up the No. 1 seed. Las Vegas is the better offensive team, but the margins aren’t as great as you’d think. The Sky are 2.7 points behind the Aces in offensive efficiency. Yet,because of the Sky’s great defense, they have a better net rating.

Both teams are 11-5 in this scenario (Aces at home & Chicago on the road), again showing there’s very little separating these teams. We’ve seen the Sky flex their muscles and keep the Aces’ offense down several times.

With them being on the road, having the better defense and having value, I’ll take Chicago to charge into the postseason. – Donnavan Smoot

Pick: Sky ML (+100)

Sun vs. Sparks Best Bets

Both teams still have something to play for, although one can argue that the likelihood of anything changes is slim-to-none.

The Sparks find themselves in 11th in the WNBA standings, but just a game behind several other teams with two more games to go. FiveThirtyEight has the Sparks at an 8% chance of getting in, and with their surprising victory a few games ago against the Washington Mystics, I won’t completely rule them out.

At the same time, the Sun also have a slight chance to move up to the 2-seed if the Chicago Sky knock off the Las Vegas Aces tonight on the road, so they too have something to play for, even if it’s unlikely and stay locked into the 3-spot.

Because of all the uncertainty, along with the Sun’s thrashing of the Sparks in L.A. in their previous game, I’ll back them in the first half to cover a much smaller line of 6-points. Over the past two weeks, the Sun are the top defensive rated team in the first half by a wide margin, and rank third in overall net rating. The Sparks rank second-to-last in net rating during that stretch in the first half.

10.5 points feels like too much, even if it’s on the lower end compared to the books that have it at 11, so I’ll back the Sun to hold them off in the first half by just 5.5 instead – Ben Heisler

Pick: Sun 1H -5.5 (-110)

These teams have played twice this season, with Connecticut winning by 26 and 17 points. Simply put, the Sun are one of the best teams in the WNBA, and the Sparks are one of the worst.

It isn’t always that simple, but in this matchup it is. Connecticut ranks No. 2 in defensive rating and No. 3 in offensive rating while the Sparks are 11th and 10th in the league in those same statistics.

Even on the road, I’m comfortable laying the 11 points with the Sun, as they are 10-7 against the spread and 11-6 straight up on the road this season. Los Angeles is just 7-9 at home, and it’s only win since July 23 was a three-point road victory over the Washington Mystics.

Don’t overthink this. Connecticut is the only bet to make. – Peter Dewey

Pick: Sun -11 (-110)
