With just one game on Saturday night's WNBA slate between the Las Vegas Aces and L.A. Sparks, Donnavan Smoot and I split our bets at 1-1 yesterday. I hoped the Sparks' recent run of 1st quarter success would hit at a discounted rate of +170 at home against the Aces in a fired up atmosphere in L.A, but Becky Hammon's squad came out firing.

Thankfully, Donnavan's pick of Aces -7 held up without any issues.

Today, there's four games on the slate, beginning with the Chicago Sky headed to Brooklyn to face the Liberty in the early afternoon. I'm looking at an early play on a first quarter total in that matchup, followed by an underdog getting too many points in the Mercury and Mystics later on.

Before we dive into our best bets, here are the latest odds for all four games on the books tonight, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

Best WNBA Picks For Sunday, June 12

  • Sky 1Q -2 (-110)
  • Mercury -8 (-110) vs. Mystics

Sky vs. Liberty Prediction and Pick

The defending champion Sky continue to showcase why they deserve to remain in the conversation of the best teams in the league; stunning the Connecticut Sun on their home floor Friday evening by a final score of 83-79. They also came back from down 17 in the second half, and 13 in the last 5:37 on Wednesday in DC before losing on two free throws in the final few seconds.

Meanwhile, the Liberty have found a new gear after looking like they may be the worst team in the league. Over their last five games, they're 4-1, tied for the best record during that stretch with the Sun with the best offensive rating and net rating in the league.

The line for Sky -7 feels a tad high, but I also know they have it in them. Rather than take my chances on a line or total that feels like a toss-up, I'll trust Chicago's ability as the best net rated 1st quarter team (+20.6) in the WNBA this year against a Liberty team that's improved, but still ranks 9th (-8.5). Two points doesn't feel like too much to cover, especially given their propensity to start games off well.

PICK: Sky 1Q -2 (-110)

Mercury vs. Mystics Prediction and Pick

I get that Washington is a very good team, but Elena Delle Donne is still probable dealing with back and muscle spasms, and Phoenix is starting to play some of their best basketball of the season.

Phoenix lost went 2-8 to start the year, but have won their last two games in a row against a good Atlanta Dream squad and an up-and-down Sparks team in their previous game. They've gone 2-2 over their last four, but lost two very close games to Connecticut by 4 and Chicago by 3; two of which are in the top 3 for best teams in the league.

The Mercury rank dead last in opponent points per 100 possessions, and Washington's offense right now isn't the team that's best positioned to truly take advantage of it. Plus, are we really going to fade the White Mamba on her 40th birthday?

With Phoenix gaining confidence back and Washington still a bit banged up, I'll take the underdogs on the road.

PICK: Mercury +8 (-110
