Trail Blazers vs. Hawks Prediction and Odds (Trail Blazers Pitiful Offense Gives Under Value)
By Joe Summers
We've got a matchup between two struggling teams on Monday night as the 33-34 Atlanta Hawks host the 26-40 Portland Trail Blazers at 7:30 PM EST.
The Hawks have won two in a row, but have failed to cover the spread in five straight while the Trail Blazers just beat Washington but prior to that had failed to cover in six consecutive contests.
Portland beat Atlanta 136-131 back in January - will they pull off another upset victory, or will the Hawks get their revenge at home?
Here are the odds via WynnBET to help us figure that out:
Trail Blazers vs Hawks Odds, Spread and Total
Spread
- Trail Blazers +14 (-110)
- Hawks -14 (-110)
Moneyline:
- Trail Blazers +700
- Hawks -1400
Total:
- 231 (Over -110/Under -110)
Trailblazers vs Hawks Prediction and Pick
Portland's offense is terrible. They're dead last in offensive rating and net rating over their last 15 games while putting up under 100 points in five of their last seven. A matchup with the Hawks may help, as Atlanta is 24th in defensive rating in that same time span and relies on a fiery offense to win games.
The Hawks do rank fourth in offensive rating and 11th in net rating over that stretch, so they're capable of winning a shootout. But Atlanta is just 4-8 against the spread (ATS) when playing on no rest and just chased around the Pacers in a tight game. They may be without John Collins tonight as well, who is questionable to play.
I just don't see the total getting this high unless the Trail Blazers have an outlier shooting performance. Josh Hart is their best player as Anfernee Simons is still nursing an injury and that should tell you a lot about the state of the Portland Trail Blazers. The Hawks have played at the fourth-slowest pace in the league in March and I think they'll be content to drag this one out to get some rest against such an inferior opponent.
The spread is worrisome for me and I feel I can't trust either side, so I'm going with the under. It's 3-1 in Atlanta's last four games and 4-2 in Portland's previous six. With such a high spread, it's likely we'll see a blowout and the Hawks will have an opportunity to relax a bit. Tough games against the Hornets and Grizzlies await the home team and I think they'll be content to take it easy tonight.
Pick: Under 231 (-110)
