The Portland Trail Blazers have yet to put up a win since the All-Star Break after impressive wins over the Grizzlies and Bucks in back-to-back games. Their opponent tonight, the Minnesota Timberwolves, are on a three-game winning streak since the break and have already beat Portland twice this season. But those wins were by a combined six points which does have me questioning this massive spread. I guess the fact that the Trail Blazers have lost three straight games by at least 30 points has a lot to do with it. Portland was already in a bad spot with most of their starting lineup injured, but things are going from bad to worse in a hurry. Needless to say, the Trail Blazers didn’t cover any of those blowout losses and are on a three-game ATS losing streak as well. Here are the odds for this Northwest Division, showdown courtesy of WynnBET:
Trail Blazers vs. Timberwolves Odds, Spread, and Total
Spread:
- Trail Blazers: +13.5 (-110)
- Timberwolves: -13.5 (-110)
Moneyline:
- Trail Blazers: +700
- Timberwolves: -1100
Total:
- 233 (Over -110/Under -110)
Trail Blazers vs. Timberwolves Prediction and Pick
While I usually fade NBA favorites with spreads this high, the Trail Blazers are a special case. I just can’t get over the fact that they have lost three games in a row by at least 30 points. Portland has the 22nd ranked scoring offense and 25th ranked scoring defense which should explain some of these recent issues. But losing by a combined 99 points in three games is nearly inexcusable and I cannot even consider a play on this team right now.
The Timberwolves, on the other hand, are on a three-game ATS win streak and are coming off a 37 point win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. I think another massive blowout is on the horizon for both of these teams and am willing to risk a bit extra to buy a few extra points on Minnesota.
Pick: Timberwolves Alt Spread -15.5 (+115)
