Travelers Championship Betting Preview: Odds and Prediction
The PGA Tour heads to Connecticut for the final "designated" event on the schedule, the Travelers Championship.
Xander Schauffele will attempt to defend his title at the event, less than a week after failing to capture the U.S. Open despite a record-setting first round.
Let's take a look at the odds to win this week's event and then I'll give you my best bets to place.
Odds to win the Travelers Championship
Travelers Championship picks and predictions
Xander Schauffele +1400
Despite Xander Schauffele once again breaking my heart at a major tournament, I'm going to have to bet on him once again at this week's Travelers Championship.
He's the defending champ at this event and it's not by coincidence. His style of play fits this course well. According to DataGolf.com, 27.1% of the approach shots at TPC River Highlands are from 150-175 yards out. Well, who leads the Tour in approach proximity from that range? Xander Schauffele does.
He's also in solid form if we're willing to look past his collapse at the U.S. Open. He has six top 10 finishes over his last eight starts and hasn't finished worse than T24 over that stretch. Now that he's returning to an event he knows he can win, I'm going to back him to successfully defend his title.
Collin Morikawa +2500
Collin Morikawa has been striking the ball as good as he's ever had in his career, but his short game has completely let him down. At least that was the case until his latest two starts where he gained strokes putting in both. Unfortunately, he had to withdraw from The Memorial Tournament due to back spasms, but then looked healthy en route to a T14 finish at the U.S. Open.
His game is trending in the right direction and his style of play fits TPC River Highlands well. He's accurate off-the-tee and has one of the best iron games in the world.
Tom Kim +4500
This will be Tom Kim's first time playing at this event, but I think amongst all golfers in the field, this course may fit his strengths the best. Driving accuracy and approach proximity from 125-175 yards out are the most important areas to focus on for TPC River Highlands.
Kim ranks fourth on Tour in driving accuracy, second in approach proximity from 125-150 yards out, and 15th in proximity from 150-175 yards out. Not to mention he's coming off his best performance at a major in his career, finishing T8 at the U.S. Open.
