Trevor Rogers Can Cement Rookie of the Year Status Today
It would be hard to argue against Trevor Rogers being the leading candidate to win National League Rookie of the Year, as the 23-year old has been a bright spot for the Miami Marlins this season.
The New Mexico native was drafted 13th overall by the Marlins in the 2017 MLB June Amateur Draft, and has been solid for them since being brought up to the Majors. He got a few starts in the shortened 2020 season, but had less than stellar numbers with a 1-2 record and a 6.11 ERA.
In response to those numbers, Rogers has come out of the gate firing on all cylinders in 2021. Through his first 13 starts of the season, he sports a 7-3 record with an eye-popping 2.02 ERA. If he’s able to sustain this level of play, not only will he likely win rookie of the year, but he’ll certainly receive votes for the NL Cy Young award as well.
Rogers currently ranks sixth in ERA among starting pitchers in Major League Baseball, behind only Jacob deGrom, Kevin Gausman, Lance Lynn, Brandon Woodruff, and Carolos Rodon.
He gets the ball for his 13th start on Tuesday night, and this time he’ll be facing the St. Louis Cardinals. Kwang Hyun Kim (4.05 ERA) will get the start for St. Louis. It will be his first start since being placed on the 10-day IL on June 4th.
Despite the pitching advantage, the Marlins are set as +100 road underdogs with the Cardinals slated as -125 home favorites. The total for the game is set at 7.5 runs.
If you’re looking to back Rogers, WynnBET is also offering a range of player props for tonight’s game. The most attractive option is the under on his earned run total of 2.5, which is set at -160 odds (bet $160 to profit $100).
Rogers has only allowed more than two runs once all season, and he has allowed fewer than three runs in seven straight starts dating back to May 7th. His only start this season in which he allowed three earned runs was against the Washington Nationals on May 2nd.
WynnBET also has his strikeout total set at 6.5, but that one may not be as enticing. Rogers has gone over 6.5 Ks just once in his last four starts, and he’s averaging 6.84 strikeouts per start this season which is right at the set number of 6.5.
Expect Rogers to continue his dominant season, as all signs point to him being a solid pitcher in the Majors for years to come.
