Trust Anthony Davis to Stay Hot in Game 4 Against Suns
By Peter Dewey
Los Angeles Lakers superstar Anthony Davis took a shot in the mouth when Phoenix Suns big man DeAndre Ayton outplayed him in Game 1 of their first-round series, but Davis has responded in a big way.
The eight-time All-Star has dropped 34 points in back-to-back games, and is looking to put together another stellar performance to lead the Lakers on Sunday. WynnBET has Davis’ player prop projection for points set at 26.5 today with the under (-115) being favored to the over (-105).
Davis has been listed as questionable for Game 4, but he dispelled any rumors that he wouldn’t suit up following the Lakers’ practice yesterday.
"There's no chance that I don't play tomorrow," Davis said. "As a player, I've wanted to be in this moment. You want to be in the playoffs and help contribute to my team's success. I want to be out there. So in my eyes, for me as a competitor, I think I'll be out there [Sunday]."
Davis is experiencing swelling in his hyperextended left knee, but if he says he’s going to play, I’m trusting him to turn in yet another big game. While Davis and Ayton have battled all series, Davis did get the best of the last two matchups even though Ayton scored 22 points in each game.
AD’s aggressiveness has really changed his play, as he’s taken a combined 34 free throws in the last two games. In Game 1, Davis attempted just five free throws and settled too many times on offense, leading to a 5-for-16 performance from the field.
The Lakers have looked to Davis more than LeBron James so far in this series, as LeBron has taken 13, 16 and 19 shots over the first three games. Since Ayton is Phoenix’s only true big, using Davis to attack him and force foul trouble to get to Phoenix’s bench will likely be the game plan again in Game 4.
WynnBET has the defending champs as 6.5-point favorites at home today, and if Davis is able to handle his full workload, the Lakers should be able to take a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Suns.
