The Twins will be happy to see Jose Berrios for the first time in 2022.  Not because he was their teammate for five and a half years, but because he has been one of the worst pitchers in the MLB this season.  Berrios is lugging around a 5.62 ERA like an overpacked suitcase, but that’s nothing compared to the weight of his wallet after signing a 7-year 131 million dollar contract that the Blue Jays may have begun to regret.

Minnesota has Dylan Bundy on the mound who’s pedestrian numbers this season begin to look stellar after perusing Berrios’s baseball reference page.  Bundy has 4.76 ERA but a 4.06 FIP, but is allowing 10 hits per nine.

Twins vs. Blue Jays Odds, Run Line and Total

Run Line:

  • Twins: +1.5 (-160)
  • Blue Jays: -1.5 (+140)

Moneyline:

  • Twins: +120
  • Blue Jays: -140

Total:

  • 9 (Over -110 / Under -110)

Twins vs. Blue Jays Prediction and Pick

Berrios is obviously trying to right the ship, and who better to do that against than his former team, but last time out wasn’t any better for the former All-Star?  He went just 2.1 innings and surrendered six runs on six hits in a game the Blue Jays managed to win 11-10. He’s not particularly headed in the right direction.  The Blue Jays offense might be able to carry him again.

Another wrinkle is that the Twins are without Max Kepler and Emilio Pagán for this series up in Canada due to their covid vaccination status.  Kepler has a .786 OPS and six home runs on the year, so that will be a big loss in their lineup.

All of this seems to lead me in circles.  I don’t trust Berrios, but how much faith can you have in Dylan Bundy either?  On top of that, I don’t want to pick a team without one of their best players and a top reliever.  So let’s root for runs in this one.

Lean: Over 9 (-110)
