Twins vs. Rangers Prediction and Pick

The most compelling story of this one is the battle of the Grays: Sonny vs. Jon.

Sonny Gray is 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA and a WHIP just above one. He has done all that in just over 50 innings this season. The Twins are 8-3 in Gray’s starts and he has given up zero runs in four of them.

Jon Gray has more volume, but his numbers are not quite as impressive. Over 77.1 innings, he has a 3.96 ERA, 4-4 record, and a 3.43 Fielding Independent Pitching, or FIP. The Rangers have won four of his last five starts, and he's salvaged his poor start to the season lowering his ERA from 5.56 at the end of May.

It isn’t often that you get a battle of two pitchers with the same last name like the one we are blessed with tonight. You have to think both guys will have their best stuff to compete for it. Everyone knows that when you are growing up and two kids on your team have the same first name, the better one gets to keep it and the other one has to have their last initial put behind it or find some bad nickname.

I think Sonny gets to keep the name after tonight. He is the better pitcher and clearly has the better first name to pair with Gray.

Pick: Twins -120
