The Rays enter Sunday's series finale with the Minnesota Twins having won their last three series against the Cubs, Red Sox, and Mariners. They are third in the AL East, but have a winning record and are playing better and better each game.

The Twins may lead the AL Central, but they had a worse record than Tampa Bay at the start of this series. But, the Twins have a terrible start to thank for that. In reality, they have been one of the best teams in the MLB in the last two weeks. They won eight in a row before Tampa Bay took the first game of this series 6-1.

Twins vs. Rays Prediction and Pick

While these two teams are fairly evenly matched, I don’t feel the same about today’s starting pitchers. Josh Fleming has given up at least three runs in each of his last three appearances.

Technically he didn’t give up any earned runs last game. But that was due to one throwing error that kept the fourth inning alive. After that, Fleming still gave up four runs that were error-free in my book. His strikeout total of four in his last two games is equally as concerning. He’s also not really a starter, more of an opener. This is going to put a lot of pressure on the Rays bullpen to close out this game.

Chris Paddack will start for Minnesota today after a solid start against the Tigers on Tuesday. Paddack gave up one earned run and five hits in 5 ⅔ innings. He struck out six and issued just one free pass. Paddack has shown improvement in every start this year and has shrunk his ERA from 6.75 to 3.68 in three games. I’m going to stick with the hot hand here and take the Twins to win game three of this tilt.
