The Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers are back in action Tuesday to continue a five-game series at Comerica Park with a doubleheader. The Twins entered this extended series as the best team in the AL Central and five games in front of the Chicago White Sox. And while I think the Twins are the worst first-place team in the league, they continue to win games at a high rate.

The Tigers, on the other hand, entered this series at 17-29 and fourth in the AL Central. I think the Tigers are exactly where they belong and will spend another season fighting to avoid a fifth-place finish.

Twins vs. Tigers Prediction and Pick

The odds for this game have yet to be released but I think that the Twins will be solid road favorites based on their record and starting pitcher. Minnesota enters this series 5-1 against the Tigers and with an edge on the mound thanks to Devin Smeltzer. The 26-year-old lefty, and fellow Jersey Boy, is 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA and 0.81 WHIP in 17 ⅓ innings over three starts.

Smeltzer has been fantastic, but the Twins continue to let him down in the scoring department. With stats like his, he should be 3-0 right now. However, it’s important to note that Smelzer played the Royals twice in his three starts and the Guardians once. While Cleveland has a strong offense, the Royals are one of the worst and have a lot to do with Smeltzer's spotless record. Luckily for him, the Tigers are as bad or worse at the plate than Kansas City. If he is for real, Smeltzer should cruise in this game.

Pick: Twins -145
