Twins vs. Yankees Game 1 Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, Sept. 7 (Domingo German Quietly Dominant for Yanks)
By Peter Dewey
After getting rained out on Tuesday night, the New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins will play a doubleheader on Wednesday, with Game 1 starting at 3:05 p.m. EST.
Domingo German (2-3, 3.12 ERA) gets the ball for New York in Game 1, and he faces Louis Varland, who is making his Major League debut for Minnesota.
The Yankees took the opening game of this series, but they have struggled offensively over the past month, ranking 29th in MLB in OPS and runs scored.
Can New York make things tough on Varland in his debut? Or will the rookie show why Minnesota should keep him in the rotation?
Here are the odds from FanDuel Sportsbook for Game 1 of this doubleheader:

Twins vs. Yankees Prediction and Pick
German’s 2022 season started out rough with a brutal outing against the Houston Astros, but he’s been one of New York’s better pitchers since then, recording eight straight starts with three or fewer earned runs.
Over that stretch, German has a 2.35 ERA, but the Yankees are just 3-5 in those games with their offense sputtering.
Even though he is making his MLB debut, Varland’s numbers in the minors show that he is ready for this moment. The youngster pitched to a 3.06 ERA in 24 outings (23 starts) across Double-A and Triple-A for the Twins this season, striking out 146 batters in 126.1 innings.
That being said, there’s some value on New York at a shorter price in Game 1 of this doubleheader. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Yankees go all out to try and win Game 1, especially since Gerrit Cole is pitching Game 2 and may not need as much run support from New York.
German is pitching really well lately, and as good as he was in the minors, Varland hasn’t faced Aaron Judge yet. That could be problematic. Give me New York.
