One of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL continues to be disrespected as we prepare for the 2021 season.

Tyler Lockett, who is one of the more dangerous weapons on the Seattle Seahawks roster, is listed at +4000 at WynnBET to lead the NFL in receiving yards. He’s listed behind the likes of Amari Cooper (+2000), Tee Higgins (+3000), DJ Moore (+3000), Darren Waller (+3000), and rookie JaMarr Chase (+3000).

That’s insulting for a player who caught 100 passes for 1,054 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. While his teammate D.K. Metcalf has stolen a lot of the attention from Lockett since he was drafted by the Seahawks in 2019, Metcalf has recorded fewer receptions (83) and only 249 more receiving yards than Lockett, but yet is listed at +1300 odds to lead the league in receiving yards in 2021.

With new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron getting into the mix, the Seahawks are expected to play a higher tempo offense in 2021 that will rely on shorter passes as opposed to the constant deep balls that Russell Wilson was throwing last season.

A high-tempo West Coast style of offense will benefit Lockett, who has a more dynamic skill set compared to Metcalf who is largely considered a deep threat that can stretch the field.

Lockett was one of only two players to record 200 receiving yards in a single game last season. He achieved the feat in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals when he put up 200 receiving yards on 15 catches in a 37-34 overtime loss. The only other NFL receiver to record 200 yards in a single game last season was Tyreek Hill of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Wilson was an NFL MVP favorite halfway through the 2020 season, but began to stumble as the season went on. Many people think the Seahawks offensive struggles in the second half of the season were due to opposing defenses catching on to the fact they were forcing the deep ball on almost every series.

Wilson is tied for fifth on the odds list to be named NFL MVP in 2021, and if he can put together a strong enough season to cause MVP consideration, you can bet that Lockett will be the beneficiary of it.

If you want to bet on someone with longshot odds to lead the NFL in receiving yards in 2021, it would be tough to find a name that’s more enticing than Tyler Lockett at +4000.
