U.S. Open Round 1 3-Ball Bets (Target golfers in great form at LACC)

We're less than 24 hours away from the opening tee shot at the U.S. Open, so it's time to place our final bets.

If you want my best bets for the tournament, you can find them in my betting preview here.

In this article, we're going to focus on some 3-ball bets for the opening round. 3-ball bets are a bet on a golfer to finish with the lowest score amongst the group that he's playing in that day. For example, if Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy are playing in a group together, you can bet on any of the three to finish the round with the lowest score.

These bets are for the first round only, so you don't have to wait until the end of the tournament to find out if you've won.

Let's dive into my top three 2-ball bets for the opening round.

U.S. Open Round 1 3-ball bets

  • Adam Scott +160 vs. Corey Conners/Gary Woodland
  • Scottie Scheffler +100 vs. Collin Morikawa/Max Homa
  • Justin Rose +165 vs. Rickie Fowler/Jason Day

Adam Scott +160 vs. Corey Conners/Gary Woodland

Adam Scott has sneakily been hot lately, finishing T9 or better in three of his last four starts. His putting has been on fire over that stretch, especially at The Memorial Tournament where he rained +1.59 strokes per day on the field with his flat stick.

Meanwhile, Corey Conners has missed the cut in every U.S. Open that he's competed in and Gary Woodland hasn't been himself all season, recording only four top 20 finishes in 2023.

Scottie Scheffler +100 vs. Collin Morikawa/Max Homa

Scottie Scheffler has been putting up otherworldly numbers from tee-to-green over the past few months, which makes him the rightful favorite to win this week's major. In the first two rounds, he's paried with Collin Morikawa and Max Homa who both have some red flags.

Morikawa had to withdraw from his last tournament due to back spasms, so his health status is up in the air. Meanwhile, Homa has finished 39th or better at a major just once in his career. Sure, it's a chalky pick, but I'm surprised we can get Scheffler at plus-money in this group.

Justin Rose +165 vs. Rickie Fowler/Jason Day

Justin Rose has finished T12 or better in three straight starts, and he also posted a T16 finish at The Masters this year and a T9 at the PGA Championship. His ball striking as been top notch, and I woudn't be surprised to see him competing on the weekend.

Jason Day, while having won just a few weeks back, has missed the cut in three of his last four starts and he had one of his worst tournaments of the season at The Memorial Tournament. He seems to be trending in the wrong direction.

Rickie Fowler has been playing fantastic golf, but he has yet to show he can get it done at a major during his career resurgance. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship and his putting has been subpar over his last three starts.

+165 is a great price on Rose in this group.
