We have a late season non conference meeting that may be flying under the radar but UAB travels to face surprising SEC West champion LSU.

The Tigers survived a scare against Arkansas last week and clinched an SEC Championship Game appearance in the process. Now, they face a Conference USA oppponent in UAB that likely won't warrant their total attention as the team looks to get healthy and prepare for the final stretch of their season.

Meanwhile, the Blazers need to win one more game to qualify for a bowl admist quarterback injuries over the last few weeks. Dylan Hopkins returned from a concussion last week and the team plays Louisiana Tech on the road next week. I expect a full effort from UAB as two touchdown underdogs, but does it have a shot at pulling an upset?

UAB vs. LSU Betting Trends

  • LSU is 6-4 against the spread (ATS) this season but 2-3 as a favorite

  • UAB hasn't covered as an underdog
  • LSU has gone UNDER in four of five games this season as a favorite

UAB vs. LSU Prediction and Pick

LSU is playing at an extremely high level, but this is a great flat spot for a team that has won four straight, including a win over Alabama to clinch an SEC Championship berth. There is little incentive for the team to run it up on UAB, who was of the more formidable Group of Five schools in the country despite the 5-5 record.

The Blazers have played their last handful of games without Dylan Hopkins, their starting quarterback who suffered a concussion agaisnt Western Kentucky and led to a three game losing streak including an overtime home loss to UTSA.

On the year, UAB is 13th in yards per play and fifth in yards per carry. Hopkins gives the team a legitimate passer under center but the Blazers have a formidable run game as well with bellcow DeWayne McBride, who is averaging nearly seven yards per carry this season.

Meanwhile, LSU could keep this game vanilla with Texas A&M and Georgia on deck and try to get out of Death Valley with a win, making me interested in taking the 14.5 with the Blazers, who are far more talented than their 5-5 record and have the offense to catch an SEC defense overlooking them.
