Two one-loss teams face off on Tuesday in some mid-major college basketball action, as the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos hit the road to take on the Duquesne Dukes. 

The Gauchos lone loss this season came to Northern Arizona, but the team has been impressive otherwise, winning three games by 13 or more points. 

Still, the Gauchos are dogs in this matchup against the one-loss Dukes, who have only dropped a game to the Kentucky Wildcats in the 2022-23 season. 

Junior guard Dae Dae Grant is the engine for the Dukes, averaging 19.2 points per game on the season. Can he lead them to a win over a veteran UCSB team that features five seniors in its top seven rotation players?

Duquesne isn’t the best defensive team ever, ranking well outside the top-100 in several key categories, but the team does know how to score the ball. 

The Dukes are 56th in the country in effective field goal percentage, shooting 38.0 percent from beyond the arc this season. Both of these teams shoot the 3-ball well (UCSB is 35.7 percent from 3), which should lead to a high-scoring matchup. 

The Gauchos are also the best offensive rebounding team in the country, so expect plenty of extra possessions on that end.

Well, the total is set at just 135.5, a number the Dukes have soared past in four of their six games. The Gauchos have also gone over this number in their last two matchups. 

These teams don’t play at an extremely fast pace, but an efficient offense should get things done when both defenses are outside the top-100 in adjusted defensive efficiency.
