After this weekend’s UFC Vegas 33, the promotion will get set for its next pay-per-view event. UFC 265 is set to take place on Saturday, Aug. 7 in Houston, Texas. The event will be headlined by a UFC interim heavyweight championship fight between Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane.

A women’s bantamweight fight between Amanda Nunes and Jessica Eye was originally set to be the card’s co-main event, but a positive COVID-19 test for the champion Nunes has caused the fight to be rescheduled for a future event. A bantamweight fight between Jose Aldo and Pedro Munhoz will not likely serve as the co-main event.

UFC 265 Main Card Odds:

Here are the current odds via WynnBET for the UFC 265 main card. An additional fight will likely be added to the main card next weekend.

  • Derrick Lewis (+250) vs Ciryl Gane (-370)
  • Jose Also (-140) vs Pedro Munhoz (+110)
  • Vicente Luque (-140) vs Michael Chiesa (+110)
  • Song Yadong (-110) vs Casey Kenny (-120)

The interim heavyweight title fight between Lewis and Gane did not come without controversy. Traditionally in the UFC, interim title fights were fought when the current champion was out of commission due to a long term injury. This was not the case this time around, as the reigning champion Francis Ngannou is healthy and ready to fight. The reports were that Ngannou and the UFC couldn’t agree on a date during the summer, so the UFC went ahead and booked an interim title fight instead.

Regardless, Lewis will be fighting for a belt for the second time in his career, and this time he’ll be doing it infront of his hometown fans. The Houston native is currently on a four fight win streak, but his lack of versatility inside the cage has caused his odds to be set at +250. Lewis has some of the hardest punching power in the UFC, but he comes up short when facing fighters with a more well-rounded skillset.

Gane is the definition of a heavyweight fighter with a well-rounded skillset. He’s one of the most dynamic heavyweight contenders that we’ve seen in recent history. His footwork and quickness makes him look more like a middleweight than a heavyweight, but at 6’5 and 245 pounds, Gane will rival Lewis in the weight department.

Gane is an undefeated 9-0 in his professional MMA career, and also 13-0 in his professional Muay Thai career. He’s as talented of a striker as you’ll see in the UFC, and he’s deserving of being a heavy -370 favorite. He would become the first ever French UFC champion with a win.
