The UFC returns from a week-long hiatus for this weekend’s UFC Vegas 34.

While the card’s lineup certainly isn’t eye-popping the main event between Jared Cannonier (13-5) and Kelvin Gestelum (17-7) will be a must-watch event for any fans of Mixed Martial Arts.

The main card is set to begin on Saturday night at 10pm et. The event will be held at the UFC Apex Center.

Cannonier vs. Gastelum Odds

WynnBET has released odds for this weekend’s UFC main event, and it has Jared Cannonier set at the -160 favorite over Kelvin Gastelum (+120).

Cannonier had a three-fight win streak ended in October of last year, when he lost to former champion Robert Whittaker via unanimous decision. The No. 3 ranked middleweight will try to put his name back in contention for a shot at the title with a win over Gastelum this week.

Gastelum will also be looking to return to the win column, as the former title contender his lost four of his last five fights since losing to Israel Adesanya at UFC 236 in what was considered one of the best fights of 2019.

Gastelum has been given no favors by the UFC’s matchmakers, as he’s been put in the cage with the very best fights in the promotion's middleweight division. While his recent record of 3-5 in his last eight fights doesn’t look great from a numbers standpoint, it’d be hard to find a fighter who has had to fight the killer’s row of opponents that Gastelum has.

Cannonier vs. Gastelum Pick: Gastelum +120

I’m riding with the underdog in this fight. I think many people including the oddsmakers, are putting too much stock into Gastelum’s recent record. He still remains one of the most skilled fighters on the UFC roster, and his style of fighting should prove effective against Cannonier.

Cannonier has struggled with his takedown defense throughout his UFC career, as he’s successfully stopped only 54% of takedown attempts against him. He’s been lucky that he hasn’t had to face any strong wrestlers as of late, and the last one he did was Jan Blachowicz who took him down four times on his way to a unanimous decision victory in 2017.

Since losing to Adesanya, Gastelum has upped his takedown rate in an attempt to bring fights to the area that he thrives in, which is his wrestling. If he decides to stick to that gameplan in this fight, he’s going to find success. He’s a great underdog bet on Saturday night at +120.
