The UFC heavyweight division is hungry for contenders, and the amount of title fights that we’ve seen recently that have been rematches prove that fact. Francis Ngannou, Stipe Miocic, and possibly Derrick Lewis are a step above the rest, as everyone else in the divisions seems to have been in a win-one-lose-one slump for years.

In steps Ciryl Gane. Despite only having eight professional MMA fights, the 31-year old from France has a spotless 8-0 record and can establish himself as the next top heavyweight contender with a win over Alexander Volkov in this weekend’s UFC Vegas 30 main event.

WynnBET has Gane set as the -175 favorite, with Volkov coming in as the +130 underdog. At -175 odds, Gane is a fantastic bet.

While he’s only competed as a professional in the sport of mixed martial arts a total of eight times, Gane also boasts an undefeated 7-0 record in Muay Thai. His greatest asset is his ability to be light on his feet, and strike with the type of precision that is rare to see inside the heavyweight division.

The majority of big boys in the UFC, rely on power and heavy strikes to beat their opponents, and when they aren’t able to land a big strike, they don’t have a plan B. That isn’t the case for Gane, who, despite his size, moves around the octagon like a welterweight.

With impressive wins over Junior dos Santos and Jairzinho Rozenstruik in his last two fights, a victory over Volkov will firmly establish his standing within the division.

Volkov enters the fight coming off two impressive wins of his own, as he TKO’d both Walt Harris and Alistair Overeem in his last two fights. He has a 7-2 record in his UFC career, but he’s stumbled both times he has had to face a top contender. He lose to Derrick Lewis by KO at UFC 229, and then he lost a unanimous decision to Curtis Blaydes in June of last year.

A big difference make in the fight could be the wrestling. Gane enters this weekend with a perfect 100% takedown defense. Volkov, on the other hand, has a takedown defense of just 66%. With Gane landing an average of 1.13 takedowns, look for him to try to take Volkov to the ground early and often in the fight.

Gane has a fantastic opportunity to cement himself as a bonafide contender this weekend, and at -175 odds, he makes for a fantastic bet to remain undefeated.
