It’s the second year of the Steve Sarkisian era in Austin and the Texas Longhorns open the season against UL Monroe on Saturday. Sark has his Quarterback and it’s not Arch Manning… yet.

The Longhorns are desperately trying to be back and a blowout win against UL Monroe would be a step in that direction. So, let’s check out the odds from WynnBET for the Warhawks trip to Austin.

UL Monroe vs. Texas Prediction and Pick

Sark’s team went 5-7 last season in what was a clear rebuild season. Yet, hope still remains that he will figure it out and he continues to bring in great recruiting classes. They brought in the 15th best class in 2021 and 5th best in 2022. They also already have one of the best running backs in the country on campus.

In 2021, Bijan Robinson played in 10 games and rushed for 1,127 yards, averaging nearly six yards a carry and he scored 11 times. He will have a much better season in 2022 and is one of the Heisman Trophy favorites. Just behind the top quarterbacks in the country.

Quinn Ewers is hoping to be one of those top quarterbacks after transferring from Ohio State where he was stuck behind CJ Stroud. Ewers was a top recruit and should find success in Sark’s system the same way other top recruits like Tua Tagovailoa have.

Texas isn’t quite back, but I can’t wait for it to be, but while everyone is getting swept up in the excitement it could be a good time to fade the Longhorns. Kentucky played UL Monroe last season in Week 1 and killed them, but still didn’t cover 38.5. The number feels inflated because of the Texas lore, so we are likely getting a few points in our favor if we take UL Monroe.

Terry Bowden improved UL Monroe from 0-10 to 4-8 last year, but it could have been better. It started 4-3 and are likely to take another step this season.

Pick: UL Monroe +38.5
